ever wonder what is is like to be a professional runner?
my commitment to the sport is strong, but it’s not my career. if i skip a workout, it only hurts myself. if i don’t give it my all, i just sacrifice my PR, not my paycheck.
but, i get a glimpse into the life of a professional runner by reading http://blog.ianandjulia.com/ — the blog of professional distance running couple, ian dobson and julia lucas. julia’s recent post tells of her trip back from north carolina to her home in portland, oregon. her travel plans were delayed and she was faced with killing 7 hours in a coffee shop. most of us would love to just hang out and read a book for 7hrs, but julia had to figure out how she was going to squeeze in a workout so that she didn’t lose a day of training. below is her story. what commitment.
The next bus leaves in 7 hours. I’m supposed to do an hour run and I’m weighing my options. I could take the day off and nurse this coffee for 7 hours, but I’d really rather not. I have a workout tomorrow and I want to move out all these travel kinks. Maybe I’ll ask the coffee shop owner to let me store my luggage here and change in the bathroom. Maybe I can just stash my stuff in a utility closet. I can run in the rain and dry off afterwards under the hand drier in the bathroom at the bus station. Or, I can give these wet clothes to a thrift shop and use the money to buy new dry thrift clothes and a thrift towel. I can ask a gym for a day trial, and use their showers and swimsuit drier. These curtains look pretty absorbent, too.
i personally, would have gone with the large americano and hardcover option.
